Deere's BackgroundJohn Deere was born in 1804 in Rutland, Vt. he was the son of William Rinold and Sarah Yates Deere. When he was 17 he took up a blacksmith apprenticeship that lasted for 4 years. After being a master craftsman for 12 years he decided to solve a problem for all farmers in the midwest. With his knowledge of numerous metals it made it easy for him to creat a plow that could cut through the rocky soil with ease.

Obstacles Deere FacedOne of the obstacles Deere faced was finding the right metal that would cut through the rough soil in the midwest.
Another obstacle would be finding the right firm that would suply him with the right material. |
Solution To ObstaclesAfter multiple trys with different metals John finaly found the one he was looking for. By replacing the iron with steal he created the first steal plow which made farming a lot easier.
In order for him to create the steal plow he first had to get a firm that would support him. At first a firm in England helped with just that, but after finding a closer more reliable source he decided to stick with the one in Pittsburgh. |
